Drivers of Wireless Sensor System Deployments
Filed Oct 12, 2006 at 3:04 PM ·
"Nevertheless, with the emergence of the IEEE 802.15.4 standard and
very recent ZigBee standard, wireless sensing technology looks headed
toward a standards-based environment," says Dr. Thusu and Sankaranarayanan.
" In assuring the further growth of the market, participants will need to
ensure that applications are developed in such a way that all sensors can
be demonstrated independently and are also interoperable."

War Among the Barbarians
Filed Sep 25, 2006 at 6:46 PM ·
Just hours before an alliance of four firms led by the Blackstone Group was to buy the company for $16 billion, another team of private equity firms, led by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and Bain Capital, swooped in with a competing offer.
After a short but tense showdown, Blackstone won the contest after raising its bid at the 11th hour by 10 percent, to $17.6 billion.
The Kohlberg Kravis-Bain offer was the first time in recent years that a private equity firm has tried to “jump” another’s all-but-done deal. Healthy competition is one thing, but last-minute raids are considered uncouth within the clubby buyout business.
