Texim Europe to Distribute MeshNetics ZigBee Modules and Development Kits

Texim Europe B.V., a leading European electronic component distributor today announced that it has entered a distribution agreement with MeshNetics, an award-winning ZigBee technology provider. Texim Europe will now carry MeshNetics’ line of the ZigBit 802.15.4/ZigBee modules, as well as MeshNetics’ Evaluation and Development Kits. The ZigBit modules enable OEMs to develop ZigBee compatible products faster by eliminating the need for costly and time-consuming RF development. Target applications include building automation, HVAC, automated meter reading, predictive maintenance, transportation, asset tracking, and more.

ZigBee to Find Traction in Commercial Building Automation in 2008

There are three major markets for sensor networking: the home, commercial buildings, and industrial facilities, and ZigBee aims to cover them all. In the home, there are alternatives to ZigBee, and in industry there are some questions about its suitability. But according to senior analyst Sam Lucero, commercial building automation is a market where ZigBee is competitively positioned against other wireless sensor technologies.

ZigBee 2006 Spec Released Plus Four New Golden Unit Platforms

The ZigBee Alliance, a global ecosystem of companies creating wireless solutions for use in residential, commercial and industrial applications, today announced the public availability of the ZigBee 2006 specification released to the Alliance membership last September and the availability of the first four platforms supporting that specification. The Alliance now offers original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) the latest enhancements to build new products that leverage the numerous strengths and features of ZigBee technology.

Ember Wins Industry Honors

Ember Corporation received two industry honors last month from both sides of the Atlantic. The National Microelectronics Institute (NMI) – the UK’s trade association for the microelectronics industry – named Ember its “Top Emerging Technology Company” for 2006, while Ember’s EM260 ZigBee network co-processor was chosen as one of the “50 Hottest Products of 2006” by the editors of U.S.-based Sensors Magazine.

Ember’s EM260 ZigBee networking co-processor will be combined with Analog Devices’ Blackfin 16/32-bit embedded processors to enable customers to tap into the fast-growing ZigBee market for wireless sensor and control applications, without having to worry about mastering the complexities of ZigBee networking. The dual-chip solution will allow electronic devices to support low-cost, low-power wireless applications, particularly in building automation, telematics and digital home entertainment products where Blackfin has been widely adopted.
